BIRD ON HER HEAD: Retro kitchen  June 7, 2013 – 00:00

The first week with Lilla Rogers is over and what an incredible week it was!! This course is so inspiring and full of so much information on how to sell your art. Our assignment this week was retro kitchen and we had to draw and design art appropriate for fabric bolt! This is something I have never done before and had no clue of anything..but Lilla gave us small steps everyday with a lot of encouragement.
I spent 10-12 hrs per day for this assignment, but it seemed like nothing to me, I was too excited to stop!

This is some of the sketches .

I also made a coordinate fabric to match my main design.

1950s "Cadillac" kitchen countertop

I am moving into a house that has a very cool, very retro kitchen. The cabinets are made of metal with sliding glass doors and everything has that curvy look so popular in 1950s cadillacs and t-birds. I think the former owners never used the kitchen as everything is in perfect shape except the countertop. The coutertop surface is a red matte linoleum with a metal edge. I would like to find the same surface in the same color. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can find this type of surface? Do I just look at laminates or is there a specialist provider for people who are restoring retro ki

You came here for praise not honest feedback

Anyone who doesn't praise you in an a-hole.
yup, then i must be an a-hole, since i think you miss the mark in a big way.
the color of the walls seems pretty agitating. the pot rack hangs in the middle of no-where, with a very strange and unattractive wine rack beneath it.
the cord looks tacky and it dangerous. can't you figure out some other way to hook up tv, or gasp, not have it in the kitchen?!
you could have used the curtains as a springboard for creating a fun retro kitchen.
ahhh, but why bother telling you this.
you think you have cool style...

Love retro

The combination of colors have a retro look about them that could be nice. I would hope that the values of the colors aren't as close as they are in the samples because there's too much sameness.
Otherwise, I think the kitchen could look cool. The aqua/turquoise is fun. Check these vintage items:

With a little polish and some time, I can get this thing looking like it belongs in anyone's "retro" kitchen, and make some profit myself — maybe even enough for that KitchenAid.

  • Avatar moe520_71104 Any ideas where I can find cute decorative wall decor for a fruit &wine themed kitchen?
    Mar 17, 2008 by moe520_71104 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

I have wood panel walls and hard wood flooring and I currently have a Tuscany and fruit type theme. Do you think some of those nice ceramic fruit plaques would look good or is that too outdated?

    • Depends on the plates. If you use the right plate hanger (maybe a vertical one that holds three or so plates) you should do ok. Just be sure the plates aren't cheap looking.

  • Avatar moe520_71104 Do you think those 3D ceramic fruit kitchen wall plaques would look nice on wood panel walls or?

Is this type of decor "outdated" or old fashioned? I have a fruits & wine themed kitchen and think some of these would add a nice touch.

    • Those wall plaques have been popular for years, and in my opinion, a classic never goes out of style.

Have you thought about hanging a stained glass window with grapes on it? Stained glass will really light up a room, and you can find a pretty peice for under a hundred dollars.

  • Avatar mamadeliliana Kitchen decor- I have a toasted orange kitchen and I want to do a vintage mexican theme, any ideas?
Mar 25, 2010 by mamadeliliana | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

My kitchen and dining room are open to each other and the walls are a mellow orange the paint was toasted coconut. I wanted to do a vintage mexican theme, I was inspired by a wrought iron rustic looking wine rack we have that looks really good next to the orange. But now I am stuck, mainly on wall decor... help! anyone have a fabulous idea?

    • When you think of a Mexican kitchen you think of the typical Adobe style home" The bright colors, lots of tile and clay and simple design is what comes to mind"

Bright colored tile in Mexican-styl …cessories that will add to the feel of Old Mexico in your kitchen" Kitschy Aztec statues, Mexican souvenirs and bright pottery can add interest and help tie the decor together. Good luck , ...Hope this was helpful !~

We just moved into a new house and its WAYY bigger than the last so we have no wall decor! And idea what theme would look really good?
Kitchen, Living room, Bath rooms, and Bedroom
I think im going with wine in the kitchen but im stuck on all the others. Any ideas?

    • For a bedroom, if you have a boy. do it texas/cowboy style.
i'm a nanny and the boy that i watch has that theme in his room.
      its just cute.
      it's so simple too.
he's got a jean bed spread, with …s signs and one says this way to the rodeo.
and then on his night stand he has two cowboy picture frames and a decorated armadillo that's a change bucket. its really the neatest room. its simple. but still themed.

  • Avatar bbdavis6469 What should we do with a wall between kitchen and livingroom?
    Aug 13, 2007 by bbdavis6469 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

We have a wall between our kitchen and livingroom (with a door on the side of course. We are considering cutting a large space out of it and fitting it with a bar to have a breakfast bar situation, plus it will be nice t …xperience on doing such a change? I fear too if we do the breakfast bar thing we'll be limiting our wall space as far places to put furniture...of course if there is no wall there, then we're really messing ourselves up.

    • I can speak from experience, this was already done when we bought the house and I can tell you that I don't like it ! I would rather have a large French door instead of the opening. Reason been that every time that you ar …he kitchen then it is fine ,but for someone who cooks everyday ,I wouldn't recommended. In fact I am looking forward to a door that would separate the two rooms. The other minus is that there will be a shortage of space .
